When Sheila was 10, her mother was dying of cancer and had entered a month-long coma that the doctors called terminal.  They moved her mother home for palliative care, and Sheila moved her bed into the room to be with her mother.  One night, the mother came out of the coma and talked to Sheila about getting her period; she told Sheila not to ”play with her belly button.”  She went back into the coma and died the next day.
