As an image maker, I understand intimately that a photograph is a representation – that certain angles are emphasized, that certain ideas are cropped out.  Isn’t it the way it goes with our own stories, filled with subtly meaningful exaggerations and omissions?  It’s all so confusing, so most of the time I don’t worry about truth and just shoot what I see.

Representation: a presentation to the mind in the form of an idea or an image.

We are the stories we tell ourselves.  Our relationship to other things, other people, other cultures, other ideas are based on stories.  And we can’t help but participate in stories, both in our own and others. If you can choose, why not tell a fun one?
